Aim: The aim of this research was to determine the relationship between psychology hardiness and sport performance in basketball players in the Iran’s Premier League. The study population comprised 293 basketball players in the tournament which was chosen based on their availability- 108 female and 116 male participants.
Methods: Research tools included the short hardiness scale (SHS: Bartone, 1995) and standard situation efficacy parameters Basketball international Federation. Pearson's correlation and stepwise regression analysis using SPSS software were utilized to analysis the data.
Results: Results showed a significant positive correlation between psychology hardiness and sports performance. Among all components of hardiness, Challenge component can predict significant sport performance and explain 3.9% of the variance in sport performance.
Conclusion: In general it can be said that the hardy athletes have better performance. In addition to considering other effective factors, the hardiness personality trait can also play an applied role in intervention programs with the aim of raising performance as well as can help to coaches in the final process of selection of players.
