Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of non-linear tactics pedagogy using small sided games (SSG) on tactical behavior and team network characteristics in 10–12-year-old futsal players.
Methods: Twenty male players were divided into two groups: linear and non-linear pedagogy. Tactical behavior was assessed using the Game Performance Evaluation Tool (GPET), and team interactions were analyzed through Social Network Analysis (SNA).
Results: The results showed no significant difference between groups in correct decision-making (P=0.589) and successful execution (P=0.877). Also, there was no significant difference in Within-group changes in correct decision-making (P=0.139) and successful execution (P=0.241) in the linear pedagogy group and correct decision-making (P=0.214) in the non linear pedagogy group. But, the rate of successful execution showed a significant change in the non linear pedagogy group during the study period (P=0.015).However, both groups demonstrated improvements in these variables post-intervention. Network analysis revealed an increase in centrality and a decrease in density for both groups, with greater centrality improvements in the non-linear pedagogy group.
Conclusion: These findings suggest that both linear and non-linear training approaches enhance tactical behavior, though differences in players' skill levels may limit network cohesion. Coaches are encouraged to consider skill level homogeneity when applying these training methods.
