Purpose: The aim of this study was to predict the participation motivation of female students in sports based on dimensions of body-self relations.
Methods: The statistical sample included 350 female students in Qarchak city, aged 16-18 years, with a mean age of 16.88 ± 0.72 years, selected randomly. Questionnaires on Multidimensional Body-Self Relations and participation motivation in sports activities were utilized.
Results: Pearson correlation tests indicated a significant positive relationship between body-self relations and participation motivation in sports among female students. Multivariate regression analysis revealed that out of the 10 components of body-self relations dimensions, the first model showed that only physical satisfaction explained 15% of the variance in the criterion variable. In the second model, physical satisfaction (13.7%) and tendency to fit (22.5%) significantly explained the variance of the criterion variable.
Conclusion: Based on the findings, sports coaches and physical education teachers are recommended to emphasize the importance of enhancing body-self relations dimensions among students. By developing body-self relations in physical education classes and setting goals to increase motivation, students may be more inclined to participate in higher-level sports activities.
