Purpose: During elementary school years, children experience rapid physical, cognitive, and intellectual growth compared to later years, with a high ability to adapt. Therefore, physical activities during this period are crucial. The aim of this research was to investigate the impact of Barreausol exercises on balance and motor coordination in girls aged 10-12 years.
Methods: This study, in terms of its objective, was of an applied nature with a semi-experimental research design conducted using a pre-test-post-test with a control group. Twenty-four female students with a mean age of 10.71±0.806 were conveniently selected and randomly divided into two groups of 12, an experimental group, and a control group. A pre-test was conducted on both groups using the Sharpened Romberg Balance Test, Star Dynamic Balance Test, and Motor Coordination Test (KTK). The experimental group engaged in Barreausol exercises for 8 weeks, and at the end of the final week of intervention, a post-test similar to the pre-test was conducted on both groups.
Results: Confirming the normal distribution of the data using the Shapiro-Wilk test (P<0.05), the results of the multivariate analysis of variance in the factors of static balance (P=0.007), dynamic balance (P=0.001), and motor coordination (P<0.001) showed that the experimental group had better performance in the post-test compared to the control group. Additionally, intragroup changes in the experimental group were significant in all variables (P<0.05).
Conclusion: Overall, the results showed that Barreausol can be used as an exercise to improve the motor skills of 10-12-year-old girls in this study.
