The relation between self-talk style and self-handicapping in soccer players of Urmia

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate relationship between self-talk style and self-handicapping in soccer players of Urmia. In this descriptive- correlational study 260 soccer players of Urmia (Range of age 16-32, 230 male and 30 female) voluntary participated. To collect the data Self-talk questionnaire and self-handicapping questionnaire were used. To analyzed the data descriptive statistic, Pearson’s correlation coefficient, regression analysis were used. The results of Pearson’s correlation coefficient indicated that there is no significant relation between positive self-talk and self-handicapping, But there is a negative significant relation between negative self-talk and self-handicapping. Moreover the results of regression analysis also show that self-talk can predict self-handicapping. The results indicate that not should probe root of act only in the brain and mental life he but voluntary action and human behavior must be analyzed with regard to communications.
