Psychometrics of the Persian version of the Sports Psychological Safety Questionnaire

Abstract

Objectives: It is very important to evaluate the psychological safety of elite athletes in sports environments. This study was conducted with the aim of psychometrically analyzing the Persian version of the Sports Psychological Safety Questionnaire (SPSI).
Materials and methods: The questionnaire were adapted to Persian language and then filled online by 220 male and female Iranian athletes from different sports.
Findings: Confirmatory factor analysis showed that the questionnaire has good factor validity and has three factors: mental health environment, mental health literacy and low self-esteem. The reliability and internal consistency tests showed that the reliability for all sub-scales of the questionnaire is sufficient and higher than 0/7. The correlation between the total score of the psychological safety questionnaire in sports with its dimensions is between 0.826 and 0.871 (p<0.001). The correlation between the total score of the psychological safety questionnaire with worry is equal to -0/784 and with rumination is equal to -0.685, both significant coefficients have been obtained (p<0.001), which shows the validity Differences in psychological safety questionnaire have been obtained acceptable in sports.
Conclusion: Based on this, the Persian version of the Sports Mental Safety Questionnaire can be used as a suitable tool to measure the mental safety of athletes in sports environments.
