the Impact of Motivational Climate on Student Achievement in Sports: A Social Cognitive Theory Perspective

Abstract

Purpose: Motivation is a key and fundamental aspect in students’ education and several research have already shown the importance of motivated students for the educational system. The purpose of this research was to determine the relationship between the motivational climate and achievement in sport in high school students from the perspective of social cognitive theory.

Methods: This research was done by descriptive correlational method. The statistical population of this research was all high school students of Meshgin Shahr city, 408 people were selected as the research sample by cluster sampling method. In order to collect data, questionnaires of motivational climate of physical education class and achievement in sports were used. : To examine the data, descriptive analysis, correlation, gender multivariate, linear regression, and confirmatory factor analysis, Significance level 0.05 and using of SPSS software version 21 were performed.

Results. The results showed that there was a significant positive relationship between task orientation and self-orientation. There was a significant difference between the sports success of girls and boys. A significant positive relationship was observed between the motivational climate and the level of sports success.

Conclusion: In other words, three percent worry about mistakes and 1.4 percent predict teacher promotion. Therefore, it can be concluded that the motivational climate of the physical education class is an important factor predicting achievement in sport for male and female students.
