The effectiveness of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy on depression, anxiety, Cognitive Flexibility in young with head and shoulder forward abnormalities

Abstract

Purpose: This study aimed to the effectiveness of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy on depression, anxiety, Cognitive Flexibility in young with head and shoulder forward abnormalities.

Methods: This study was conducted with a quasi-experimental design. The statistical population of the present study included all high school students in Eslamabad-e-Garb city (Iran). According to the empirical research, 30 individuals in the control and experimental groups (15 individuals per each study group) were selected as the sample of the study. The standard questionnaires of Anxiety, Stress Scale (Lovibond & Lovibond, 1995),cognitive flexibility questionnaire (Dennis and Vander, 2009), were used to measure the research variables. Also photogrammetric method technique was used to measure the angle of the forward head and rounded shoulder. Reliability of Anxiety, Stress Scale and cognitive flexibility questionnaires using Cronbach's alpha method 93 and ,90. Shapiro-Wilk Test, paired-test, multivariate covariance analysis and effect size were used to analyze the collected data (P<0,05).

Results: The results of the Paired t-test showed that depression (P = 0,000) and the anxiety significantly increased (P = 0,000) and the Cognitive Flexibility after applying the mindfulness-based cognitive therapy protocol compared to the pre-test (before intervention).

Conclusion: Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy can improve depression, anxiety, Cognitive Flexibility in men with head and shoulder forward abnormalities
