Abstract
Objective: This study aims to address the lack of research on school-based interventions that combine various components to improve physical activity. The main goal was to assess the effects of a 12-week multimodal program on psychological well-being, self-efficacy, and motivation for sports participation among high school adolescents.
Methods: The participants were male high school students in Tehran, aged 16 to 18 years. A total of 50 students were conveniently selected and randomly assigned to either an experimental group or a control group. The experimental group underwent a 12-week multimodal physical education program, while standard questionnaires were used to measure the relevant variables. Data analysis was performed using analysis of covariance.
Results: The results showed a significant difference in the adjusted mean psychological well-being between the multimodal physical education group (M=24.39) and the control group (M=17.35). The multimodal training significantly improved psychological well-being (η²=0.63, P<0.001, F=2.46, 1), self-efficacy (η²=0.26, P<0.001, F=22.7, 1), and motivation for sports participation (η²=0.47, P<0.001, F=62.18, 1) among adolescents.
Conclusion: These findings highlight the importance of promoting physical activity in schools, where students spend a significant amount of time. The results are especially relevant given the increasing prevalence of mental health issues among adolescents.
