[English]

themselves through superior psychological characteristics. This research examines the personality traits and mental skills of bodybuilding, weightlifting, and football athletes through a descriptive, comparative, and cross-sectional study.
Methods: The study included 86 male football players, 79 weightlifters, and 74 male athletes competing in national bodybuilding championships, ranging in age from 18 to 37 years. Personality traits were assessed using the five-factor NEO questionnaire, and psychological skills were evaluated using the EMS-3 questionnaire.
Results: One-way analysis of variance revealed significant differences in mental skills (F=19.868) and personality traits (F=14.488) among athletes in the three disciplines. There was a significant correlation between personality traits and mental skills in soccer players, weightlifters, and bodybuilding athletes (P<0.05). Additionally, the model used indicated that personality traits effectively explain athletes' mental skills (F=98.18).
Conclusion: Personality traits and mental skills are closely linked, and specific personality traits can predict levels of mental skills. Understanding this relationship through the model employed in this study can assist sports psychologists in providing better services.
